Home Repair FAQs
You will be choosing the level of complexity that you want your group to work on. If you have no experienced carpenters or handymen, then consider that and chose a less complex worksite. Our staff are not professional carpenters, but they do have general home repair skills. Most sites are pretty straight forward and you will be able to discuss your exact worksite needs with our Home Repair director prior to the experience.
Depending on the complexity of the worksite which you choose, we have different tool lists. The more complex worksites require a more extensive set of tools.
Each worksite will be overseen by one of your adult leaders. If they have little experience we suggest that they oversee a worksite which is simple- like a painting site. Our staff are available to answer questions and help so that the projects are done well.
The worksite fee only goes toward actual building materials. We have a designated fund set aside for Home Repair and can not be used for any other purpose. Some worksites cost a little more than expected, and some cost a little less, but all the money that is put in as a worksite fee is going to buy home repair materials and site support.
Youth may use power tools if they have the proper safety wear and have demonstrated proficiency with the tool. Adult chaperones and our staff check to make sure that the youth feel comfortable with the tool. No youth are required to participate if they feel uncomfortable, and they will not be allowed to participate if they cannot use the tools safely.
The Home Repair Mission focuses predominately upon serving the elderly, widows, disabled/handicapped individuals, and single parents. We also serve low-income families that do not meet the above criteria, though these situations are approached with great caution.
Confrontation Point partners with many local social agencies that screen applicants and recommend individuals for our program. This gives us greater assurance that we are helping those who sincerely need it, not those trying to abuse the system. CP also solicits applications directly from homeowners through advertisements in local newspapers, points of sale, etc. Applications for assistance accompanied by a social agency recommendation receive priority in our system and alternate applications are scrutinized and approved by our Home Repair Director and Site Development Personnel.
